Arcadia House

Can I drive my car and leave it there for the week?

Unfortunately there is no available parking for clients to leave their cars here. We recommend you get dropped off by someone or catch public transport to Arcadia House. You will not need a vehicle which you are in the program.

What medications can I bring with me?

Arcadia House is a non-medicated Detox. If you are on medications scripted by a doctor then this will be allowed with proof of the script and medical regime.

Medications commonly allowed are:

  1. Anti depressants
  2. Anti Psychotics

Medications which we cannot allow:

  1. Valium
  2. Diazepam
  3. Pain Killers

The only time that a Benzodiazepine (valium) will be allowed is when scripted by a doctor for a mental health related illness. It needs to be a specific regime scripted by your doctor and can not be scripted by your GP as a PRN medication or as required.

Can I bring in food (e.g. lollies, chocolate)?

At Arcadia House we promote a healthy approach to your Detox and this includes your diet whilst staying at the house. Food is simple and plentiful with a changing menu for each day, so we do not allow any “junk food” during your time in the program, so please do not bring it with you.

Can I bring mobile phone, iPod, DVDs, and CDs?

You are not able to bring any of these into Arcadia House as they divert you from the goal of detoxing and may inhibit the benefits of the program. Arcadia House cannot take responsibility for valuable items brought into the program and if we are aware of these items they will be placed in storage until you leave. Bags are checked with a staff member on admission. Once the program is finished for the day you can radio to listen to the radio or watch the TV after 5pm daily.

Can I have phone calls?

A daily phone call can be made to your children whilst you are in Arcadia House, as we are aware of the impact on parents and children, during your time away from home. While messages can be taken by staff from other family members and partners we do not allow phone calls during this period, this is for your benefit so you are able to focus on your health. When you are about to leave the program, you will be able to phone them to let them know your plans, whether it is perhaps to go on to rehabilitation or to go back home.

Can I have visitors?

We are a small house like facility and you cannot have visitors during your time at Arcadia House, this is important as you will be focusing on your health and detoxing for the time you are in the program.

Can I come in to detox with my partner?

We are unable to have partners in Arcadia House as this is a time to focus on your specific needs at this time and you need to concentrate on yourself for the program period. We also do not accept relationships within Arcadia House as it does not assist your detoxing period and may be detrimental to you and others working through detox.

Will I get my own room?

Yes you will have your own room. The only time we have 2 people in the one room is if we have a high number of female clients and 2 might have to share our double room for a short time. We believe in you having your privacy and that people need their own space as everybody is at different stages of their Detox.

How long is the detox program?

The Detox program is 7-10 days. It is possible to stay longer if you have secured a bed in a Rehabilitation program and want to move on to that program from Arcadia House. You must have a bed booked in Rehabilitation or another program for your length of stay to be considered for an extension.

For the most part we try to get people in within a 72 hour period. Sometimes if there is a waiting list it may be slightly longer. We recommend you continue to ring and check for a placement.
