Operation Unite

DIRECTIONS ACT partnered with the Australian Federal Police to support the ‘Operation Unite’ initiative. The operation was conducted from 2-4 December 2011. Operation Unite is a joint initiative of Police Commissioners across Australia and New Zealand. It demonstrates the united determination of police to challenge alcohol misuse, crime, violence and anti-social behaviour and achieve significant change in Australia and New Zealand. Operation Unite is a component of the ANZPAA Alcohol Misuse Strategy 2010-2012. The Strategy identifies opportunities for police to continue to inform and influence the alcohol agenda.

DIRECTIONS ACT worked with the Australian Federal Police for this community health initiative with a presence in the local media and on the streets of Canberra during the operation. The key message reinforced to young people and the wider community were the risk taking behaviours associated with excessive alcohol consumption, and in particular, binge drinking.
