Healthy Food Healthy Me

The Healthy Food Healthy Me program aims to assist the health and wellbeing of people who use Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drugs (ATOD) by distributing nutritious food to people who use our Needle and Syringe Programs (NSPs).

Often we find that people who use ATOD have not had the opportunity to learn about good nutrition. This can be due to many different factors including, financial disadvantage, poor parenting models, homelessness, disconnection with their family, and disconnection with the education system. This project aims to promote an understanding of good nutrition, which can then be shared within the community.

The people who access the NSPs are often some of the most marginalised in the community. Financially disadvantaged, often homeless, disenfranchised from families and social networks. These people often have chronic and substantial health issues. Good nutrition and a healthy lifestyle, inclusive of exercise, is often not a priority.
