University of NSW National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre - Illicit Drug Reporting System (IDRS)
The IDRS monitoring project is primarily concerned with four main drug classes: Heroin and other opioids, Methamphetamine, Cocaine and Cannabis. It also monitors diverted pharmaceuticals and other issues related to drug use, for example injection-related problems and overdose, and crime. The IDRS aims to: monitor the price, purity, availability and patterns of use of heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine and cannabis identify emerging trends in illicit drug markets in Australia that require further investigation.
University of NSW National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre - Ecstasy and Related Drugs Reporting System (EDRS)
The EDRS, formerly known as the Party Drug Initiative (PDI), is primarily concerned with monitoring use and markets of ecstasy and related drugs (ERDs) such as methamphetamine, GHB and ketamine, in Australia. It is intended to serve as a strategic early warning system to prepare policy makers, and the health and law enforcement sectors for issues likely to be of future concern. Like the Illicit Drug Reporting System (IDRS), the EDRS is also designed to identify areas that require further and more detailed research.
IDRS and EDRS Quarterly Bulletins
Separate bulletins for the IDRS and EDRS projects are produced in April, June, October and December of each year. Bulletins were first introduced in 1999 as a means of providing information on interesting aspects of project results in a more accessible format. They may also contain more detailed analyses and information on a particular topic of interest.
University of NSW National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre - Australian Drug Trends Series
The Illicit Drug Reporting System (IDRS) and the Ecstasy and Related Drugs Reporting System (EDRS) operate annually in all states and territories. In April of each year, the IDRS and EDRS coordinators publish detailed reports about drug trends in Australia.
